From the City to the Sea ... take a stroll or a ride along the Bob Jones Trail
Hikers, bikers, walkers, runners, roller-bladers, children and grownups–even steelhead trout– anticipated the completion of The "Bob Jones" City to the Sea Trail, a collaborative effort from the County, the City and the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo.
A grant suggested by George and Janice Clucas from their Community Foundation's Donor Advised Fund, helped to fund this eight-mile trail which connects the communities of San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach. Named for one of the environment's most tireless advocates, the Bob Jones Trail winds through the forested valley alongside San Luis Obispo Creek towards Avila Beach, affording views of the historic Octagon Barn, picturesque bridges, an emerald golf course, and the Pacific Ocean.
The project supports conservation of San Luis Creek, floodplain, steelhead trout habitat, and agricultural lands, as well as the City of San Luis Obispo's greenbelt.
"We really like the way they go about getting things done," said donor Janice Clucas, referring to the SLO Land Conservancy. "And we are delighted with the completed section of the trail." The section from Prado Road to Los Osos Valley Road includes the Bill Roalman Memorial constructed by the Land Conservancy.
George and Janice Clucas have established a Donor Advised Fund that keeps them actively engaged in grantmaking. Their Fund gives flexibility in meeting the needs of the people of San Luis Obispo County.
